How to choose the size of the decorative painting?

It is no exaggeration to say that no matter how fancy the walls in your home are, it will feel a little empty after the furniture is arranged. This is actually normal. The height of the furniture is generally not too large. When it is placed against the wall, it only occupies 1/3 of the height of the wall. The upper 2/3 of the wall is empty, and it must not look perfect. .
At this time, a hanging painting is needed to save it. But the choice of hanging paintings is not so easy, too large paintings will make the room look crowded. Hanging pictures that are too small will make the room look unattractive, and there is a feeling of unfinished business. So how to determine the size of decorative paintings in the family?
Estimate the width
Determine the width of the decorative painting, which is generally divided into three situations:
1. There is a reference
If there is a piece of furniture just below the decorative painting, and the installation position of the decorative painting needs to be in the center of the furniture, this piece of furniture can be used as a reference. When choosing a decorative painting, the width of the piece of furniture should also be considered. For example, the decorative paintings directly above the sofa, bedside, and dining table.
At this time, the optimal width of the decorative painting should be 0.618 times the width of the reference object. For example, at the head of a 1.8-meter bed, you need to hang a painting of 1.8*0.618≈1.1 meters.
2. No reference
There are no reference objects in some places, such as the painting on the entrance wall. There is only this painting on the whole wall, and there are no other objects. What should I do? At this time, the width of the wall should be used as the benchmark.
At this time, the width of the decorative painting should be 0.8 times that of the wall. For example, if the width of the wall is 1 meter, then we should choose a decorative painting with a width of 0.8 meters.
3. The reference is not clear
Now there are many such situations, that is, there is furniture under the wall, but the furniture is not in the center of the wall. Or rather, furniture is not the main object of this wall. For example, some living rooms are relatively large, the wall behind the sofa is 4 meters wide, but only a 2.8-meter sofa is placed.
At this time, we can neither use the sofa as a reference and choose a hanging painting of about 1.7 meters; nor can we use the wall as a reference and choose a hanging painting of about 3.2 meters. The correct way is to use furniture as a reference and reserve about 0.2 meters on each side.
For example, on this 2.8-meter sofa, a decorative painting of about 2.4 meters should be hung.
highly determined
In fact, the decorative painting does not have too high requirements for the height. As long as the width is determined, the height can be determined according to the needs of the image in the painting. But it's not completely random, we still have the optimal height:
1. There is furniture under the painting
Like the sofa and the picture above the bed we mentioned earlier, there is a piece of furniture under the picture. At this time, the height of the painting should be about 1/2 of the distance between the top of the furniture and the ceiling shape.
For example, the height of the head of a bed is 1.2 meters, and the height between the head of the bed and the ceiling is 1.5 meters, then we should choose a hanging painting of about 0.75 meters.
2. There is no furniture under the painting
Like the entrance wall mentioned above, there is a painting on the entire wall. At this time, the height of the painting should be about 3/5 of the distance between the ground and the ceiling.
For example, a wall with a height of 2.7 meters should hang a painting with a height of about 1.6 meters.
Coordinate width and height
Seeing this, some people will ask: I just saw a painting, which is narrow and long, what should I do? For example, there is a painting whose size is 1.6m*0.4m. If this painting is really not hanging, we still have two options:
1. Increase the width and reduce the hanging height
As we said in the previous article, it is best to hang a painting of about 1.1 meters on the head of the 1.8-meter bed. But if the height of the painting is not enough, we can increase the width of the painting - just make the hanging painting slightly smaller than the head of the bed. For example, a 1.6-meter hanging painting is quite suitable.
At the same time, there are also requirements in the hanging type. Under normal circumstances, the hanging height of the hanging picture is the midpoint between the top of the furniture and the ceiling. If the height of the painting is relatively low, we can hang the painting a little lower. The lowest hanging position is 30cm above the head of the bed.
Another solution is to hang multiple paintings. The height of a single painting is not enough, the total height of multiple paintings will always be enough! When calculating the total height of multiple paintings, not only the height of the paintings, but also the width of the gap between the paintings. This gap is generally 0.15 meters to 0.2 meters.
Some people like to hang multiple paintings horizontally, or make a photo wall. At this time, the calculation method of the width and height of the painting is also based on the total width of all paintings, plus the gap width.
For example, if you want to hang three paintings horizontally behind the sofa, the width of each painting is 0.5 meters. Then the total width of these three paintings should be 0.5*3+0.4 (two gaps) = 1.9 meters.
